The number of illegal immigrants apprehended at the southern border has reportedly increased as the Biden administration’s immigration crisis ravages on.
According to Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent John Modlin, the number of immigrant apprehensions in his sector. During the past week, Modlin reported on the social media platform X that there have been around 15,300 immigrant apprehensions.
In addition to the apprehensions, his sector also seized 117 pounds of fentanyl, intervened in 14 human struggling incidents, and carried out 17 immigrant rescues.
“Tucson Sector agents continue to encounter armed smugglers,” the border chief wrote in a separate post.
The number of immigrants apprehended during the last seven days has increased by 1,000 compared to the previous weekly report, in which Modlin said that his agents had dealt with 14,300. During that period, the agents saved 33 migrants and found 300 pounds of fentanyl.
The Tucson Sector remains at the forefront of illegal immigrant apprehensions. According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 55,224 immigrants were apprehended in October. The number was immediately surpassed in November following Modlin’s report.
Tucson sector agents apprehended 373,625 migrants during the fiscal year ending in September. This is up by nearly 22,000 from the 251,984 migrant apprehensions during the last fiscal year.
This comes as the U.S. has been seeing massive migrant numbers since President Joe Biden announced earlier this year that he would be lifting “Title 42,” a controversial border policy implemented by former President Donald Trump back in March 2020 that allowed the border agency to turn migrants away.
Since then, more than two dozen Republican governors have called on the Biden administration to provide “honest, accurate, detailed information” about the ongoing southern border crisis amid states facing “staggering” costs to deal with the crisis.
In a letter addressed to Biden, 25 GOP governors led by Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte are demanding transparency over the data the Biden administration is releasing in regards to the migrant crisis.
“As a result of your policies which incentivize illegal immigration, our states are carrying the burden of both the years-long surge in illegal border crossings and cartels’ coordinated trafficking of drugs and human beings,” the letter read.
