His victory was marked as the first permanent leader of this organization since the beginning of 2015.

According to the reports, Dettelbach who previously served as a U.S. lawyer in Ohio during the Obama era was Biden’s second choice to lead the agency.

“Steve Dettelbach is a proven and effective leader who will helm atF, catalyzing the agency’s work and helping to implement President Biden’s gun violence prevention strategy. The importance of a Senate-confirmed director cannot be overstated,” Kris Brown said, who leads the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

“The atF is vital to enforcing the nation’s gun laws and reduce gun trafficking and the supply of firearms that are fueling our nation’s gun violence crisis.” He added.

However, despite his victory, many Republicans have raised their concerns over his views on gun regulations.

Meanwhile, several Democratic senators and anti-gun violence group praised the Senate confirmation.

“While certainly not a panacea to the gun violence epidemic plaguing our nation, having Mr. Dettelbach at the helm of the ATF will ensure the feds have all hands on deck in the fight to stop gun trafficking, prevent illegal possession of firearms, and make sure our kids can’t get their hands on dangerous weapons,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in an official statement.

Attorney General Merrick Garland also claimed in a statement that is confident that Dettelbach “will lead ATF with integrity, dedication, and skill.”

Furthermore, the president claimed that he would continue to try to “push Congress to adopt other measures to stem gun violence, such as banning assault weapons and expanding background checks. It is unlikely that Congress would pass further gun control legislation in the near term,” Reuters said in a report.
