US President Joe Biden’s Department of Treasury rejected a Republican lawmaker’s bid to examine “suspicious activity reports” on first son Hunter Biden in an attempt to cover up his banking documents.
According to the reports, the lawmaker’s bid was not approved by the Democrats in the Congress.
On Saturday, Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), ranking member of the House Oversight Committee released a statement on the committee minority’s website, slamming the department’s decision.
“It’s unacceptable. The Treasury Department continues to run cover for the Biden family and possibly hide information about whether Joe Biden benefited financially from his family’s business transactions,” Comer said.
Reports revealed that the lawmaker has been trying to wrangle the reports known as SARs or anti-money laundering reports generated by banks that flag suspiciously large transactions out of the department for months.
According to Comer there were at least 150 SARs filed against President Biden’s son and Biden’s other family members who were also reportedly involved in the questionable foreign business deals.
“In the past, such reports have been made available to congressional investigators of either party — but the Biden Administration changed the rules to severely restrict Congress’ access to suspicious activity reports in the dark of night and with no explanation,” Comer said.
On Friday, Treasury official Jonathan Davidson issued a letter and wrote that the department will only provide SARs based on “appropriate requests from committees of jurisdiction.”
However, it was an unlikely prospect since the House remains in Democratic hands.
During the recent news release, Comer called Treasury’s response “unacceptable.”
“We need more information about these transactions and if Joe Biden has benefited financially from his family’s dealings with foreign adversaries. It is a matter of national security to know if President Biden is compromised. The American people deserve answers, and Republicans will use the power of the gavel next Congress to get them,” he lamented.
Former President Donald Trump also condemned the Biden administration for its hypocrisy relating to Hunter Biden, claiming that the FBI and Justice Department never conducted a similar search of President Biden or his son over crucial information found on Hunter’s laptop.
“So they riffled through the living quarters of my 16 year old son, Barron, and the loved and respected former First Lady of the United States, Melania,” Trump lamented.
“Despite proven high crimes and treason, and just plain common theft, all pointed out in the Laptop from Hell (and elsewhere), they never Raided or Broke Into the house of Hunter Biden or, perhaps even more importantly, the house of Joe Biden – A treasure trove! This is a Country that’s unfair and broken. We are truly a Nation in Decline!!!” the former president added.
