US President Joe Biden confronted a reporter face-to-face after being asked about reports circulating that the majority of the Democrats no longer want him to seek re-election in 2024.
During the congressional picnic at the White House on Tuesday, the reporter asked Biden “Mr. President, what’s your message to Democrats who don’t want you to run again?”
Following the question, the president became agitated, approached the reporter and lashed out at him and argued that “they [Democrats] want me to run” and told the reporter to “read the polls.”
The reporter then responded and told the president that roughly two-thirds of Democrats say they do not want Biden to run again, the New York Post revealed in a news report.
After that, President Biden began walking up closely to the reporter and the camera and lashed out at him saying, “Read the polls, Jack, you guys are all the same,” and added that the “poll showed that 92% of Democrats, if I ran, would vote for me.”
The heated interaction came after the media reported that several polls revealed that American voters, especially Democrats, don’t want the president to seek reelection in 2024.
Between July 5 and 7, New York Times/Sienna College conducted the poll where it revealed what it called “bleak” polling for President Biden with 64% of Democrats saying that they would prefer a new candidate in 2024.
“President Biden is facing an alarming level of doubt from inside his own party,” New York Times reporter Shane Goldmacher said in a statement and called the national mood “decidedly dark.”
According to GoldMarcher, only 13% of American voters believe that the country is moving in the right direction and added that “for Mr. Biden, that bleak national outlook has pushed his job approval rating to a perilously low point. Republican opposition is predictably overwhelming, but more than two-thirds of independents also now disapprove of the president’s performance, and nearly half disapprove strongly.”
He also added that Biden, having only 70% of approval rating from the Democrats is “a relatively low figure for a president especially heading into the 2022 midterms when Mr. Biden needs to rally Democrats to the polls to maintain control of Congress.”
