According to the police, two of four suspects were taken by the Marine recruiters as they attempted to escape the robbery which had occurred at a jewelry store in the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, Los Angeles.
In an exclusive report released by Fox News Los Angeles, four people who were wearing masks and armed with hammers were caught in the act destroying the glass to display cases and grabbed as much jewelry as they could.
However, as they were trying to escape, the marine recruiters who worked in the mall and some bystanders had taken down two suspects to the floor.
“[It was] the Marines. The Marine Corps… They stepped up, they tackled them down. Two got away, two got tackled down, and they stepped it up. That’s enough. Time to fight back,” a person who captured the robbery on video said in a statement in an exclusive interview with the news outlet.
According to the reports, the recruiting station is only next to where the robbery took place.
At the time of writing, two suspects who were identified as both minors, were taken into police custody.
Authorities claimed in an interview with the news outlet that they recovered a large amount of the stolen jewelry from the scene.
This wasn’t the first time that a US Marine helped overcome robbers in the US.
In Arizona, James Kilcer, the veteran US marine who had stopped an attempted armed robbery at an Arizona store last year.
“As the armed suspect walked by Kilcer while pointing the weapon at the cashier, the former officer reacted without hesitation, quickly disarming the suspect and taking him to the ground. He was able to immediately gain control of the gun and detain the suspect until the local police arrived at the spot. As a result, no victims were injured and no property loss was sustained,” Indiana Narrative reported.
Following the heroic scene, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office launched a recognition ceremony for the US Marine where Sheriff Leon Wilmot presented him with the Citizen’s Valour Award “for extraordinary heroism and exceptional courage while voluntarily coming to the aid of another citizen during an incident involving criminal activity at extreme, life threatening, personal risk in an attempt to save or protect human life.”
