Are Issues With Israel and Russia Being Caused by Double Standards?

Based on their opinions and backing, the United States has faced some opposition with the Israel-Palestine and the Ukraine-Russian wars. One point of contention is how the US is handling the Israel-Gaza conflict in comparison to Russia-Ukraine.

The statement made by global analyst Richard Hass, “Consistency in foreign policy is a luxury policymakers cannot always afford,” is relevant to the current state of affairs in the US and these two main battles.

In the Russia-Ukraine confrontation, Joe Biden has chosen to back Ukraine while endorsing Israel’s tactics in Gaza. This has generated a great deal of debate and discussion among outsiders who view this as an inconsistent stance to take.

A nation’s hypocrisy can lead to several issues, such as lost self-respect and credibility loss. Real-world ramifications of Biden’s choice here could have an impact on US relations with its allies.

Although the US is frequently referred to as the “indispensable nation,” it is difficult to accept this after Biden’s recent acts. Recently, in December, Biden rejected an accord that other nations had supported—a cease-fire between Israel and Gaza.

According to recent statements made by Vladimir Putin, “everything at this point is trending in his favor.” In his October speech, Biden compared and contrasted Israel with the Ukraine, stating that they were in similar situations. Many claimed that he wasn’t particularly clever in using this strategy. Fiona Hills, a former US Department employee, stated, “It might not have been good global politics, but it might have been good congressional politics.”

Due to America’s selective nature, the Global South—which is seeing the country support colonial practices while simultaneously criticizing them—is likely to have problems with the country.

“A US monopolistic exercise [regarding the fate of Gaza] is out of sync with the world we live in today and with contemporary geopolitics,” said Israeli expert Daniel Levy. In that regard, a significant and intriguing development has occurred, which may even provide some hope: we now find Palestine occupying this type of symbolic space for a large portion of the so-called Global South as well as in numerous Western cities. It’s a sort of protest against the post-colonial order, this intolerable global order, and the hypocrisy of the West.

It’s been suggested that Biden’s choice to back Israel may cause alliances to shift or hostilities to rise. When Trump was president, these relationships and the general atmosphere were very different because he made decisions based on unity rather than concern over losing Russian sources.
