Authorities claimed that if it wasn’t for his bravery and heroic actions that stopped the attack, the gunman could have taken more lives at the time of shooting.

The armed bystander who gunned down the suspect was identified as 22-year old Elisjsha Dicken. Reports revealed that he fatally shot and killed the suspect after firing 10 shots from his Glock handgun.

“He engaged the gunman from quite a distance with a handgun — was very proficient in that, very tactically sound and as he moved to close in on the suspect he was also motioning for people to exit behind him. Many more people would have died last night if not for a responsible armed citizen that took action very quickly within the first two minutes of the shooting.” Greenwood Police Chief James Ison said.

Although many praised Dicken for his heroic action, critics blasted the pro-gun campaigns as they brought up the Uvalde mass shooting incident, asserting that not even “400 trained” police officers could take out a shooter with an AR-15.

“If 400 trained, coordinated, and fully armed police officers can’t get their acts together enough to stop a mass shooting in time, what makes anyone think that arming teachers is the answer?” Dr. DaShanne Stokes said on Twitter.

Shannon Watts, an anti-gun activist also slammed the pro-gun campaign in a now-deleted tweets and discredit the armed bystander who was forced to kill the gunman.

“Imagine thinking that arming a civilian with weapons of war and enabling them to go to the mall to kill three people and wound three others before another armed civilian is forced to open fire on a gunman inside a crowded food court is a good outcome.” Watts posted and deleted.

“A US Senator says enabling a civilian to access weapons of war and use them to kill three people and wound three others inside Greenwood Park Mall before another armed civilian opened fire on a gunman inside a crowded food court is a good outcome.” She added and later deleted.

Authorities revealed that the gunman killed three civilians and injured two during a shooting rampage inside the mall around 6 p.m.

Multiple people called 911 to report an active shooter just minutes after the gunman emerged with a rifle and started shooting random people.

The gunman was identified as 20-year old Jonathan Douglas Sapirman who reportedly had no criminal history except for the juvenile record he got as a runaway and for fighting with other students at school.

The victims were also identified as Indianapolis couple 56-year old Pedro Pineda, 37-year old Rosa Mirian Rivera de Pineda, 30 year old Victor Gomez.
