New poll shows that Americans’ confidence in the U.S. presidency has hit its lowest point ever under the Biden administration.
According to the annual survey conducted by the Reagan National Defense Survey, only 36 percent of American adults said they had either a “great deal” or “some” confidence in the presidency, while 17 percent said they had “a little,” and 47 percent said “not much at all.”
The numbers have been declining since the poll was initially conducted in November 2018—during the Trump administration—and 44 percent of respondents said that they had “great deal” or “some” trust in the presidency. Since then, the number of those who have absolutely no confidence has remained constant.
The survey also found that just 38 percent held a favorable view of President Joe Biden and 59 percent held an unfavorable view. Former President Donald Trump fared significantly better, with a 47 percent favorable rating and a 50 percent unfavorable rating.
Additionally, Trump bested Biden 42 to 36 percent in a hypothetical 2024 matchup, with 9 percent saying they would support another candidate and 9 percent saying they would not vote.
This comes as Biden is in danger of losing the 2024 presidential election following dissatisfaction from the public. Biden’s favorability among the American people has sharply declined since February 2021, just days after his inauguration in January of the same year, when it stood at 53 percent.
According to a survey conducted by Gallup late last month, support among Democratic voters slid by 11 points from September. Only 75 percent of Democrats support the president, compared to last month’s 86 percent.
Progressive Democrats are also demanding Biden to stop supporting Israel and take a firm stance against the country’s crusade in Gaza. Users of X, formerly Twitter, have taken to the social media platform to declare that they won’t vote for him next year.
“Biden’s immediate and decisive show of support for Israel following the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas appears to have turned off some in his own party, resulting in Democrats’ worst assessment of the president since he took office,” said Gallup in its report.
