The Biden Administration said they would be making changes to cut down on carbon pollution from factories and other buildings in the United States.

A lot of countries, including the US, have talked about how important it is to decarbonize many of the plants that are already running. This was just announced by the United States. They will be doing it at many sites, such as those that make cement, concrete, iron, steel, and food products like ice cream and mac and cheese.

It is said that one-fourth of the emissions come from this type of business, so focusing on it would make a big difference. She said that the technologies are “replicable, scalable, and will set a new gold standard for clean manufacturing in the United States and around the world.” Jennifer Granholm is the energy secretary.

According to them, this scheme should also get rid of 14 million tons of pollution every year. Several projects have been funded. For example, Kraft Heinz will place heat pumps, electric heaters, and electric boilers at 10 of its facilities to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that is released when food is made. As part of another project, a steel company will get rid of one blast furnace to make room for two electric furnaces and technology that uses hydrogen to make iron.

These are just a few of the projects that are getting money, and they are happening in several states. This is the start of a bigger effort to get rid of carbon emissions around the world. The head of the Portland Cement Association, Mike Ireland, was positive about the changes and said, “I think the United States can be a leader here.”

Ireland went so far as to say that technologies from the US could be used in other places to build sustainable, scalable towns.
