A new study says that medications are used for most abortions in the United States.

After Roe v. Wade was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court, more than 600,000 abortions by medicine happened. Over fourteen states have made abortion illegal since the court’s ruling.

Misoprotol and Mifepristone are the two most popular drugs used to cause abortion in women. According to the Supreme Court, mifepristone is being challenged in court right now, which could make it harder for people across the country to get the drug.

Since this drug is so easy to get, many people can get prescriptions for it through video appointments. It is safe to use if you are less than ten weeks pregnant. The number of abortions in the US has surprisingly gone up since the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Even though the court case for mifepristone is still going on, limits on abortion are still being added. If a person lives in a state that doesn’t allow abortions, the court could make it harder for practices to mail the drug to those people. For the patients to get the drug, they would have to go in person.

The idea of legalizing abortion is something that a lot of Americans think about, and different states have different ideas about how to handle it. Before making any full changes to their abortion laws, most states are waiting for the Supreme Court to rule on the medicine.
