North Korea fired several ballistic missiles at U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken while he was in South Korea. This is thought to have been an insult.

It was great to meet President Yoon Suk-yeol while Blinken was in South Korea for the Summit for Democracy. Also being talked about is how they will deal with danger from the North. The United States and South Korea just finished military training together. However, Pyongyang in North Korea retaliated because they saw any rehearsals or training as a danger.

News stories say that North Korea fired three short-range ballistic missiles that hit the Sea of Japan. Japan afterwards said that they saw the missiles and that they did not hurt anyone. A spokesperson for Blinken said that after talking with Yoon, Blinken “condemned the launch of ballistic missiles by the DPRK and reaffirmed the United States’ ironclad commitment to the ROK’s security.”

The North Korean government has said that Washington and Seoul could pay a “dear price” for their military drills. They also said Kim Jong-un had a unit of artillery that could hit the city of South Korea.

A professor of military studies said, “Pyongyang’s firing of multiple missiles at this time is a very well thought-out move to show that they can do something like this even when the top US diplomat is in town.”

As a way to get back at Seoul and Washington, North Korea is said to launch missiles after the drills. However, Blinken’s presence in the area only makes them want to keep launching missiles.

The US and South Korea are friends, and they have been working together to get ready for a possible war with North Korea. There are more than 20,000 American forces in South Korea right now to help protect against the possible threat. As things get worse between the North and the South, the US is a very important partner for South Korea.
