Someone who used to work for the FBI has been charged with lying about the Biden family’s ties to a Ukrainian energy company

On Thursday, a grand jury charged Alexander Smirnov with “making a false statement” and “creating a fictitious record.” After coming back from a trip abroad, Smirnov was arrested at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. If found guilty, Smirnov, who is 43 years old, would spend 25 years in jail.

According to the indictment, the defendant gave the FBI false and damaging information about the Bidens even though he was told many times that he should be honest and not make up proof.

As Alexander Smirnov put it, Hunter Biden used his father’s name to ask for millions of dollars while he was on the board of Burisma in Kyiv. He also said that Burisma hired Hunter Biden to “protect us from all kinds of problems through his dad.” Because of this, they are said to have given Joe Biden and Hunter Biden $5 million each in 2015 and 2016. Because of what he said, there was a push for an investigation into impeaching the president.

Kevin McCarthy, the Speaker of the House at the time, talked about “bribery allegations” made by a “trusted FBI informant.”

Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden’s lawyer, had said from the start that there was something going on and that these claims were not true. Lowell said, “We were right, and their balloon is now empty.”

The charges were found to be false, but Hunter Biden, who was charged with tax evasion last year, is still being looked into.
