The Ohio Department of Health said on Monday that someone who went through Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky International Airport may have been exposed to measles. People who went through Airport A between 5 pm and 9 pm on January 27 and from 8:30 pm to 11:30 pm on January 29 could have been exposed to measles.
“ODH is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other state and local health officials to find people who might have been exposed,” the agency said. “This includes getting in touch with passengers on certain flights who might have been exposed.”
Officials from the health department say the warning is just to be safe after hearing about a child who got measles on Saturday.
If someone has a fever of 101oF or higher, a runny nose, and red, watery eyes, they might have measles. Most people get a cough after 10 to 14 days. There may also be a swelling on the face or body. Children can get measles, which is called a “childhood infection” and can be very dangerous or even deadly, especially for children.
This is not the first time we’ve heard of a Measles alert. Health officials in Washington, D.C., gave the same warning when they found that people could have been exposed to measles at both Dulles International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Some health officials are afraid that these Measles warnings will keep coming out and get stronger because so many parents have chosen not to vaccinate their kids.
