Republican Texas Representative Troy Nehls intends to introduce a House version of the BUILD IT Act, originally proposed by Republican Iowa Senator Joni Ernst.

This legislation aims to allow states to request necessary supplies from the federal government for completing the construction of the border wall.

The BUILD IT Act would obligate the federal government to provide states with the materials originally intended for the southern border wall construction upon request.

In response to this, some states like Arizona and Texas have taken steps to finish sections of the border wall in their jurisdictions that were left incomplete.

In January 2021, President Biden issued an executive order to halt border wall construction.

Senator Ernst has expressed concerns about border security, alleging that over 8 million illegal aliens and potential threats have entered the country due to the Biden administration’s open border policies.

She also criticized the government for selling barrier materials at a fraction of their value, suggesting it implies a lack of commitment to border security.

Additionally, recent reports indicate that the Israeli intelligence service Shin Bet accepted responsibility for failing to provide early notice of a security breach by Hamas terrorists, who entered one of the world’s most secure borders, causing harm to Israeli civilians.

During President Trump’s first term, both Democratic and Republican legislators frequently opposed the construction of a similar wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Biden administration has faced criticism for its perceived open border policies, allowing illegal immigrants from various nations to enter and subsequently be released while awaiting asylum.

This situation has led to major U.S. cities expending billions in federal funds to accommodate these migrants, with some characterizing it as an “invasion” enabled by the current administration amid a global crisis.

Recently, Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) led a group of 24 Texas House GOP lawmakers to fight for the policy changes in H.R. 2 – the Secure the Border Act of 2023.

In May 2023, the House of Representatives embraced the Texas Border Plan in passing H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023. H.R. 2 is by far the strongest border security legislation to ever pass Congress, but – to date – Chuck Schumer’s Senate has failed to act on this critical legislation.”

“Of course, there are other ideas that could be added to aid the effort. However, the fundamentals of H.R. 2 represent the engine of policy reforms necessary to stop the disastrous flow to the border,” the Congress members wrote.
