Three people passed away, and six were hospitalized due to listeria contamination of an ice cream machine at a restaurant in Tacoma, Washington.

The immune systems of all six affected individuals were compromised, making them defenseless against the illness.

Fever, muscle aches, headaches, stiff necks, disorientation, diarrhea, and vomiting are all listeria symptoms. Since listeria can remain dormant in a body for up to 70 days, it is unknown if this epidemic is the cause of more infections.

The ice cream machine that was not properly cleaned has been identified by the Washington State Department of Health as the outbreak’s primary cause.

Family-run burger and ice cream store Frugals was shocked to learn of the epidemic and the ensuing illnesses and fatalities. In Tacoma and the nearby cities, Frugals has operated for more than 30 years. To prevent a repeat of this disaster, they are closely working with authorities.

At the Tacoma location, the company has ceased selling any milkshakes, and the milkshake equipment has been moved to a different facility for cleaning and re-testing. Frugals has also stopped making milkshakes in other locations as a precaution.

Not all affected parties may have been aware of the underlying cause, given the signs of listeria. Doctors only take a sample for testing and can establish listeria is the cause in extreme situations when the patient seeks medical assistance.

Unfortunately, in certain circumstances, an ill victim will need serious medical care. For a person in generally good health, it is only an upset stomach that will pass in a day or two. The other problem is that while illness does not always manifest right away, it might be challenging to determine what caused the infection in the first place.

The CDC makes an effort to keep track of all illnesses and pollutants, but given the role that humans play in food processing, it is challenging. Nowadays, many towns and counties use rating systems to communicate whether a restaurant complies with regulations for safe food handling.

The most recent routine inspection of Frugals in Tacoma revealed numerous open issues, so it was not excellent. Listeria may be impossible to avoid, but health assessments are now more crucial than ever.
