An archaeologist has reportedly found the location of the lost Biblical city of Sodom, marking it as one of the dramatic discoveries of the 21st century.

During an interview on TBN’s “The Rosenberg Report,” host and geo-political expert Joel C. Rosenberg sat down with Dr. Steven Collins to discuss his and his team’s uncovering of the Biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Kingdom of Jordan.

Collins said that he began working at the site around 20 years ago, northeast of Jerusalem and close to the Jordan River’s mouth. A piece of pottery that appeared to have been melted on the surface was found during the first season of excavation.

“There’s so much specific information about the location of these cities that you would practically have to be blind and illiterate not to be able to find the location of Sodom because there are at least 25 known pieces of geography that you can triangulate between to take you to the city of Sodom. It’s not difficult,” he explained.

The precise locations of these cities may be used to pinpoint their exact sites. The Bible contains at least 25 geographical hints that could be used to pinpoint the location of Sodom.

Collins argues that his theory is supported by the description of Lot’s journey from Bethel and Ai to the east in Genesis 13, where he eventually pitches his tent near Sodom. The archaeologist believes this to be a verbal route map to Sodom and states that one can get to Sodom by traveling east from Bethel and Ai to the site of Tell el-Hammam.

“Here’s the problem with Albright’s location of Sodom. He never, ever provides an exegesis of Genesis Chapter 13, which is the verbal map to get to the city of Sodom. He just basically shot off the top of his head,” he said.

The site of Bab edh-Dhrahe, which is south of the Dead Sea, is mentioned in Answers in Genesis. The team comes to the conclusion that Bab edh-Dhrahe is most likely the site of Sodom based on the findings of ancient pottery and signs of fiery devastation.

The biblical evidence for the region south of the Dead Sea where Sodom was located is found in Genesis 10, Genesis 14, Genesis 19, and Ezekiel 16.
