Special Counsel John Durham blasted Democrat Tennessee Rep. Steve Cohen after saying that had ruined his “reputation” over the counsel’s recently released Russian collusion report.
Durham was testifying at the House Judiciary Committee about his recent 306-page report, which outlines his investigation into former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton’s “Russia Collusion” allegations against former President Donald Trump.
Cohen then questioned Durham, saying that he should have included information from a grand jury report by then-Attorney General William Barr.
“You had a good reputation,” the congressman said of the counsel. “That’s why the two Democrats supported you. But the longer you hold on to Mr. Barr, and this report that Mr. Barr gave you as special counsel, your reputation will be damaged, as everybody’s reputation who gets involved with Mr. Trump is damaged. He’s damaged goods. There’s no good dealing with him, because you will end up on the bottom of a pyre.”
Durham attempted to respond, but was cut off by Cohen. He was then given an opportunity to speak out by the committee chair and Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan.
“My concern about my reputation is with the people who I respect: my family, and my Lord, and I am perfectly comfortable with my reputation with them, Sir,” he declared.
The report added that CIA Director Brennan briefed then-President Barack Obama and then-Vice President Joe Biden on Clinton’s plan to link Trump’s campaign to Russia. Brennan also continued to push the claim of collusion on liberal media for years.
“According to his handwritten notes, CIA Director Brennan subsequently briefed President Obama and other senior national security officials on the intelligence, including the ‘alleged approval by Hillary Clinton on July 26, 2016 of a proposal from one of her foreign policy advisors to vilify Donald Trump by stirring up a scandal claiming interference by Russian security services,” Durham wrote.
Trump has since responded to the Durham report on Truth Social, expressing his vindication after being accused of colluding with Russia during the 2016 presidential election.
“WOW! After extensive research, Special Counsel John Durham concludes the FBI never should have launched the Trump-Russia Probe! In other words, the American Public was scammed, just as it is being scammed right now by those who don’t want to see GREATNESS for AMERICA!” the former president wrote at the time.
