Conservative pundit Candace Owens sent out a controversial message to her fellow Black Americans, mocking the celebration of Juneteenth.
On June 20, Owens doubled down on her opposition to Juneteenth and tweeted out that the Black holiday is “still ghetto and made up.”
“Hope everyone enjoys it!” she sarcastically concluded her tweet.
As expected, liberal Twitter condemned the Black Republican commentator’s remarks, with many pointing out her hypocrisy over Juneteenth.
“In other words, you don’t understand why anyone celebrates it, couldn’t be bothered to look that up, and came to yet another blind conclusion. Shocker!” wrote one user.
“Juneteenth is a significant day in American history that marks the end of slavery in the United States. It is a day of reflection and celebration for many African Americans. To say that Juneteenth is “ghetto” and “made up” is dismissive of the struggles and hardships that Black Americans have faced throughout history,” tweeted another.
Owens later hit back at his critics and accused Black people of “crying racism,” as well as ignoring how often she claims to criticize “white people in politics and culture.”
“Last week on my podcast I covered Lance Bass, Megan Fox, Vivek Ramashwamy, Dave Rubin, Prince Harry, Conor McGregor and Andrew Tate. BuT mUh JuNeTeEnTH!!” Owens clapped back in a follow-up tweet. “Generally speaking, black people today are emotional silly putty and cannot take any criticism without crying racism.”
Owens has always advocated for fair treatment among all races. Earlier this year, she blasted Democrats over a bill that would demolish white people’s freedom of speech.
“So at the same time that they [Democrats] are addressing these big theoretical macro issues and changing the American criminal justice code to be race-specific, something that has never been, they are ignoring the collapse of the daily life for their constituents,” she told then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson at the time.
This comes after Democratic Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, recently introduced the “Leading Against White Supremacy Act of 2023,” which would make “speech that vilifies or is otherwise directed against any non-White person or group” illegal and criminalizing “antagonism based on ‘replacement theory.’”
