In a surprising turn of events, Fox News clapped back at former President Donald Trump after criticizing his former White House press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany.
This comes after Trump turned on McEnany in a Truth Social post on Tuesday, accusing her of sharing inaccurate poll numbers with the media.
“Kayleigh ‘Milktoast’ McEnany just gave out the wrong poll numbers on Fox News. I am 34 points up on DeSanctimonious, not 25 up,” he wrote, using his nickname for Republican Florida Gov. and fellow presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis while misspelling the term “milquetoast.”
“While 25 is great, it’s not 34. She knew the number was corrected upwards by the group that did the poll. The RINOS & Globalists can have her. FoxNews should only use REAL Stars!!!” Trump continued.
Milquetoast is a phrase used to describe someone who is weak or bland. It was inspired by the meek 1920s comic strip character Caspar Milquetoast, who was named after the comfort meal milk toast. He has been described as “the original snowflake.”
On Wednesday, Fox News anchor Brian Kilmeade slammed the ex-president for criticizing the former press secretary.
“Attacking Kayleigh McEnany is insane,” Kilmeade said during the live airing of “Fox & Friends.” “She was one of the best press secretaries ever.”
Kilmeade then listed Trump’s weaknesses as they were analyzing a possible Trump vs. DeSantis battle for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. “They say he flies off the handle,” the host said of Trump.
35-year-old McEnany, who currently serves as the host of “Outnumbered” on Fox News, was seen by many as a die hard supporter of Trump who also spread the former president’s numerous lies.
Most recently, however, Trump’s fondness for his former press secretary took a turn after McEnany brought up a survey showing him leading DeSantis by 25 points.
“The Desantis team would say we just had polling comes out that shows we closed the gap by nine points since we announced in Iowa. Still, Trump is hugely ahead but they say they are closing the gap. If you look at polling it was Trump 34 in Iowa and it’s now 25. That’s double-digits.,” she said at the time.
She was the last person to serve in the role of White House press secretary under the Trump administration. McEnany started working in April 2020.
