DOJ Wants FBI To Abolish Using Crime Statistics To Fit Political Narrative

The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) recently unveiled a set of new crime investigation guidelines aimed at promoting fairness and combating discrimination.

While the department is currently engaged in various high-profile tasks such as appointing special councils and addressing seditious conspiracies, it has found time to develop regulations in the name of anti-discrimination.

According to the reports, the proposed regulations seek to prohibit law enforcement agencies from utilizing statistics or metrics related to what the DOJ refers to as “protected characteristics.” These characteristics include “facially neutral factors as a proxy,” which means that any general descriptions regarding race or other stereotypes may not be used to identify suspects.

In addition, in the new guidelines, all information provided by law enforcement must be specific to the individual being sought. Sexual orientation, nationality, religion, gender identity, and disability are explicitly listed as topics that cannot be mentioned to any degree.

Moreover, the regulations address the concept of “high crime areas” and discourage law enforcement officers from making generalizations about these areas due to the potential for implicit bias and excessive policing. The only exception to this rule would be if a specific individual with protected characteristics can be identified in a precise location during a specific time frame.

Under these new rules, officers would be prohibited from considering prior crime statistics when drawing conclusions that may carry a discriminatory bias towards any community.

Furthermore, the DOJ also argued that the crime statistics, including its own, are inherently biased and unreliable, and their use is likely to lead to discrimination against protected classes. However, under the proposed guidelines, collecting, using, or disseminating data of this nature would be prohibited.

The DOJ’s initiative is aimed at promoting a more equitable and unbiased approach to crime investigations. By focusing solely on the specific characteristics of the individuals being sought, law enforcement agencies hope to eliminate discrimination and ensure equal treatment for all individuals involved in criminal investigations.

These proposed guidelines are currently under review, and their implementation would require careful consideration of their potential impact on law enforcement practices. As the DOJ strives to strike a balance between protecting individual rights and maintaining public safety, the development of anti-discrimination measures in crime investigations continues to be a subject of intense debate and scrutiny.
