Biden Sending US Troops To Southern Border

President Joe Biden announced that he will be sending 1,500 U.S. troops to the southern border amid the ongoing illegal immigrant crisis.

This comes just a day after White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was grilled by Fox News reporter Peter Doocy for lying about the border being secured from illegal immigrants.

“If the border is secure, as the administration has said, then why would we need to send 1,500 active duty U.S. troops down there?” Doocy asked Jean-Pierre during Tuesday’s White House press briefing.

To which the press secretary responded, “Because we need more work. We need more work needs to be done, Peter. We put forth a comprehensive immigration legislation, and Congress, Republicans in Congress, refused to act. And so the President has used the tools that he has in front of him to prepare ahead of Title 42 lifting.”

Jean-Pierre also claimed that illegal immigration had decreased by more than 90 percent, citing actions taken by the Biden administration. However, critics have called out her comments for making such a bold claim.

“Well, that is a lie,” one Twitter user wrote. “Nothing has stopped. In fact, the border agents all say [it’s] open and bad people [are] coming into the country. Just look at the recent illegal that is on the run after killing neighbors.”

“This is just blatant misinformation,” another one tweeted. “How do they get away with this and why is it seemingly accepted?!?”

This comes as the Biden administration continues to struggle with the massive influx of migrants entering the U.S. from Mexico. The U.S. has been seeing massive migrant numbers since Biden announced last year that he would be lifting “Title 42,” a controversial border policy implemented by former President Donald Trump back in March 2020 that allowed the border agency to turn migrants away.

Since then, the Department of Homeland Security has reported that nearly 2.4 million migrants were detained at the border for the fiscal year ending in September, surpassing the already-historic number of 1.7 million migrant detainees in 2021. The numbers are likely to increase should the Biden administration end “Title 42.”
