Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) sparked controversy after caving on his stance, contesting gun control amid debates revolving around the Second Amendment.
Recently, Lee caved on his position, opposing proposed gun control legislations more than two weeks after the controversial and tragic mass shooting that took place in Nashville Christian school, killing at least 5 people, including elementary children.
In a report published by Breitbart, it was revealed that “Connecticut was the first state in the Union to adopt a red flag law, doing so in 1999. The law did not prevent the December 14, 2012, attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School from occurring.”
In addition, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) signed California’s gun violence restraining order legislation into law in October 2014.
According to Breitbart News, California was the number one state in the Union for gun control and also the number one state for “active shooter incidents.”
Amid the controversy, Gov. Lee decided to push a red flag law for Tennessee.
According to The Tennessean, Lee claimed that, “I’m asking the General Assembly to bring forward an order of protection law. A new, strong order of protection law will provide the broader population cover, safety, from those who are a danger to themselves or the population.”
Politico also published a report and revealed that the media outlet has observed that Lee was planning to meet with the leaders of the state legislature as part of his efforts to persuade them to support the gun control measure.

“On April 2, 2023, this author pointed out a red flag law would not have stopped the Nashville shooting from taking place because neither police nor the family of the 28-year-old transgender shooter were aware of the planned violence against the Christian school,” Breitbart News added.
“Moreover, Breitbart News reported her parents knew she had one gun, once upon a time, but they urged her to sell it and believed she did. The parents were unaware she had actually bought more guns, which she kept hidden from them,” it continued.
Furthermore, the outlet claimed that the transgender killer had no criminal record and that she bought her guns legally.
The Daily Beast reported that Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) chief John Drake issued a statement, indicating that the MNPD would have taken away the shooter’s guns prior to the attack occurring, but “as it stands, [they] had absolutely no idea who…[she] was.”
