Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham recently released a striking statement, trolling Manhattan District Attorney (DA) Alvin Bragg over the indictment of former US President Donald Trump.
According to the reports, former president Trump is currently facing indictment charges after he allegedly directed lawyer Michael Cohen to send $130,000 in hush money to former porn actress Stormy Daniels before the controversial 2016 presidential election.
Juan Merchan, the acting justice for the New York County Supreme Court, is reportedly expected to oversee the former President’s arraignment that is likely to take place Tuesday.
In the controversial post, Graham asked “How can President Trump avoid prosecution in New York?”
“On the way to the DA’s office on Tuesday, Trump should smash some windows, rob a few shops and punch a cop. He would be released IMMEDIATELY!” the Republican Senator added.
In a report published by the Daily Caller, it was revealed that “Graham’s statement mocked Bragg, who previously announced in January 2022 that there would be no prison sentences for criminals unless they were found guilty of murder, violent felonies, major white collar crimes or sex offenses.”
The report also added that “Since taking office, the district attorney has downgraded 52% of felony cases to misdemeanors and requested bail in 49% of felony cases.”
Moreover, Bragg also announced in an initial memo, that robberies would be classified as misdemeanor petty larceny, “unless a person was physically harmed in the incident,” the report added.
Graham’s controversial statement came a year after Bragg scrapped the policy and announced in an updated memo that commercial robberies committed at knifepoint, with a gun or with another weapon “will be charged as a felony.”
Reports claimed that the campaign launched by Bragg received about $1 million from Democratic mega donor George Soros.
The fund was reportedly received “through the Color of Change PAC, a progressive organization aiming to elect lenient prosecutors, before taking office in January 2021,” Daily Caller claimed.
Amid the controversy, Bragg released a statement, pleading for his supporters to donate more funds to former President Trump over the indictment.
He also accused the DA’s office of politically targeting Donald Trump before the 2024 presidential election.
