Two illegal immigrants were nabbed for killing an American bald eagle.
According to the reports, the two Honduran nationals were cited in Nebraska for unlawful possession of an American bald eagle after they gunned down the bird so they could eat it for dinner.
In an official statement released by the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office on February 28, it was revealed that “Two Honduran nationals, Ramiro Hernandez-Tziquin, 20, and Domingo Zetino-Hernandez, 20, both of Norfolk were cited for unlawful possession of the eagle. Hernandez-Tziquin was also cited for having No Drivers License.”
“Further investigation revealed that the two had shot and killed the protected national bird in that area and stated they planned on cooking and eating the bird,” the statement added.
Prior to the arrest, Stanton County police officers responded to a report about a suspicious vehicle that was parked near the Wood Duck State Wildlife Management.
Upon the arrival of the officers at the scene, they discovered the two Hondurans holding the dead bald eagle.
“Both Hernandez-Tziquin and Zetino-Hernandez could not speak English and the only identification they carried came from the Honduran consulate. Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger also confirmed to the New York Post that officials believe the Hondurans are illegal immigrants after “conferring with the United States Immigration.” Patriot Alerts reported.
Upon the discovery, Unger released a statement, claiming that he was “very frustrated with the federal government” because they have yet to bring charges against the Hondurans.
According to the County sheriff, he had attempted to get in touch with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service multiple times, encouraging them to pursue charges but has been unsuccessful so far.
Moreover, Unger explained that the sheriff’s department would not be leaking the photos of the dead eagle because they are “very graphic” and contain “lots of blood.”
He also claimed that Hondurans had an extremely hard way of life. “I’m trying to be as politically correct as possible when I say this but I don’t know what kind of third-world life they’re coming from, but it must have been pretty bad” before adding that locals in the country are “quite upset, and they wish something could be done.”
“And the federal government is the one that really has the authority and the ability to prosecute these gentlemen to the highest degree,” he continued.
