Former Attorney General William Barr claims that former US President Donald Trump is not the right candidate for the Republican Party in 2024.

According to Barr, the former president is “obviously bent on revenge more than anything else.”

During an interview with CBS News’s Catherine Herridge on Friday, Barr spoke on Trump and said “I think the future is bright for the Republican Party. I view 2024 as setting up another 1980, when [former President] Reagan won two terms and then [former President George H.W.] Bush won a third term. And that’s what I think you really need to make America great again, you know, decisive victory and the reaction to the excesses of the progressive Democrats.”

“And I think we could do that again and really achieve a decisive victory with the right candidate, but I don’t think Trump is that candidate. The day he’s elected, he’ll be a 78-year-old lame duck who is obviously bent on revenge more than anything else.”

Although Trump teased the possibility of him running in 2024 and is expected to announce his potential bid, the former president hasn’t made any announcements yet.

Moreover, in a separate report, Trump lashed out at Barr and accused the former Attorney General of failing to do more to tackle the alleged widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

“Former Attorney General Bill Barr wouldn’t know of voter fraud if it was staring him in the face – and it was. The fact is, he was weak, ineffective, and totally scared of being impeached, which the Democrats were constantly threatening to do. They ‘broke’ him.” Trump claimed.

He also accused Barr of refusing to make movements following Trump’s allegations of election fraud and irregularities in the 2020 election out of a desire to “save his own hide.”

The former president’s comments came after Barr exposed Trump for getting mad after he told him that there was no evidence that the 2020 election was rigged.

“I told him that all this stuff was bullshit … about election fraud. And, you know, it was wrong to be shoveling it out the way his team was,” Barr said and described how Trump became “very angry” about the remarks.
