US President Joe Biden approved the building of the U.S.-Mexico border wall, contradicting his 2020 remarks against former president Donald Trump.
In 2020, President Biden blasted Trump and his border policies and even branded the former President as “racist” for his policies against illegal immigrants.
During Biden’s 2020 Presidential campaign, Biden promised against the Border Wall that was being built under Trump’s administration.
“Not another foot.” Biden claimed.
“There will not be another foot of wall constructed under my administration, No. 1. I’m going to make sure that we have border protection, but it’s going to be based on making sure that we use high-tech capacity to deal with it. And at the ports of entry — that’s where all the bad stuff is happening,” Biden said at that time.
After he won the presidential race, Biden ordered to stop Trump’s project—the border wall construction, which led to Morelos Dam creating a gap which has since become a very popular spot for illegal immigrants to cross into the US due to the low water level in the Colorado River.
However, as the Republican and some Democrat lawmakers continue to call for Biden to solve the surge in immigrants in the United States, the Biden administration is being left with no choice but to continue the Trump’s regime plan as the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border remains a big problem for the administration.
Early this month, the Department of Homeland Security declared that the government will continue to build one portion of the border wall system in the Yuma Sector.
According to the reports, Biden’s decision to build the wall came out following the remarks of Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ), repeatedly calling for Biden to finish the remaining sections in the Yuma Sector.
Kelly argued that the sector is the “third busiest area” along the entire southern border for illegal immigrant crossings.
Meanwhile, Myles Traphagen, Arizona environmentalist, responded to the decision and argued that finishing the border will not stop the illegal crossing.
Traphagen explained that the reason is because Yuma has “become the new Ellis Island for Arizona, with people arriving there from countries as disparate as Ethiopia, Cuba, Russia, Ukraine, India, Colombia and Nicaragua.”
“People have traveled halfway around the globe on planes, trains and automobiles. So to expect that closing four small gaps is going to make them turn around and book a return flight on Air Ethiopia is sheer fallacy.” Traphagen lamented.
