Rep. Mayra Flores, R-Texas, newly-elected congresswoman blasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for “pushing” her young daughter during a photo op in Washington last week.
Flores accused Pelosi for pushing her child in a tweet that she posted recently where she also uploaded a clip showing the incident that took place during her swearing-in ceremony on June 21.
In the video, Pelosi appeared to be pushing Flores’ daughter after leaning on her while posing for the photo op.
Flores then slammed Pelosi and captioned the tweet with, “I am so proud of my strong, beautiful daughter for not allowing this to faze her.”
“She continued to smile and pose for the picture like a Queen,” the Flores said of her daughter.
Pelosi can be seen waving to someone off-camera. She then looked down to the newly-elected congresswoman’s daughter and “elbowed” the child, prompting her to move to the side.
“No child should be pushed to the side for a photo op. PERIOD!!” Flores added in the tweet.
The controversial incident took place as the house speaker welcomed Flores to the House of Representatives.
“It’s a great honor to welcome Congresswoman Flores to the Capitol and to the Congress of the United States with great congratulations. And again, grateful for her leadership and her beautiful family who are here today.” Pelosi said in her speech on Sunday.
However, following Flores’ rant, several conservative commentators have also blasted Pelosi for showing her “true colors.”
Republican commentator, actor James Woods argued that the clip is clear evidence of the Democratic lawmaker displaying “her true colors.”
In addition, Conservative columnist and TV show host Benny Johnson also slammed the House Speaker and called Pelosi a “witch.”
“Nancy Pelosi ELBOWS the little daughter of new GOP Congresswoman Mayra Flores. What a witch,” Johnson tweeted.
30-year old Flores is the first Mexican-born congresswoman in the United States after she won a special election earlier this month against a Democratic opponent to replace Rep. Filemon Vela (D-Texas).
In another video from the same event, Pelosi can be seen smiling and shaking hands with Flores as she congratulated her on the historic achievement.
“Thank you, Congresswoman Flores, for your courage to run for office and best wishes for your success. It’s an honor to work with you.” Pelosi added during the ceremony.
