A flight attendant helped a pregnant passenger deliver her baby daughter while onboard a plane en route to Florida, according to reports.

During a trip from Denver to Orlando on January 16, flight attendant Diana Giraldo helped the mother to the plane’s back lavatory and assisted her as she gave birth.

“‘Exemplary’ and ‘calm’ were the words Captain Chris Nye used for Flight Attendant Diana Giraldo’s heroic task of delivering a baby recently mid-flight,” Frontier Airlines wrote in a Facebook post. “The baby couldn’t wait, so the early and unexpected labor took place on a flight from Denver International Airport to Orlando International Airport (MCO).”

Nye decided to land early at Pensacola Airport to get the new mom and baby medical assistance as soon as possible. Paramedics were waiting at the gate for the pair.

“I transferred controls and flying duties to my First Officer as I coordinated the diversion,” he said. “Dispatch did a great job as well by suggesting Pensacola Airport and getting a gate and paramedics ready for us. This was a job well done, and I was happy to see everyone working together to successfully deliver a newborn on an aircraft!”

The mom decided to give her baby the middle name of “Sky” in honor of her high-altitude birthplace.

The story has received positive responses on social media, with many praising the airline crew for helping the mother.

“This is a story one doesn’t often get to tell or hear,” said one user. “Thankful for the flight attendant and her knowledge and help. As she was born in the sky, where will she claim her birthplace? Congratulations and many years of happiness for your family!”

“Great job [and] kudos to the flight attendant!” praised another. “What a great story! The baby sure looks awfully at ease not realizing what a stir she caused. She even appears to have a slight smile like ‘Ha ha! Didn’t I surprise everybody?’ She will definitely have an unusual birth story to tell. God bless all involved and glad everything ended on a positive note. God was definitely in control!”
