California District Attorney Finds Himself in Hot Water

California District Attorney, Chesa Boudin is taking a lot of heat lately after voters voted to oust him, for allegedly preferring to “safeguard criminals over law-abiding citizens.”

In the recent poll conducted by EMC Research, over 68 percent of likely primary voters, including the 64 percent of registered Democrats, voted to oust the District Attorney with three-fourths of respondents, claiming that Boudin is “responsible for rising crime rates in San Francisco, especially burglaries and thefts.”

In a report released by San Francisco Chronicle, Boudin has been widely criticized for his “refusal to punish the criminals, arguing that he wouldn’t prosecute cases involving quality-of-life crimes, like public camping, offering or soliciting sex, public urination [or] blocking a sidewalk.”

According to the data released by the The San Francisco Police Department, “Burglaries rose to over 7,000 in 2021 and motor vehicle thefts rose to about 6,000.”

Smash and grab have also become rampant in the city, forcing multiple stores to close in the city last year as suspects reportedly made off hundreds of thousand dollars worth of merchandise and caused massive damage.

In November 2021, the city’s top election official announced that Boudin would be forced into a recall election on June 7, 2022 during California’s statewide primary.

“Today the Department of Elections certified that the petition to recall District Attorney Chesa Boudin contains a sufficient number of valid signatures and that the petition is successful,” wrote Director of Elections John Arntz, who sent a letter to petition organizers to notify them of the conclusion of the certification process.
