The US has fled State department officials and diplomatic activities in Ukraine to Poland as worries of a potential Moscow-led invasion deepen.

In a statement released by State Secretary Antony Blinken, the movement of the department workers to Poland is the best option for “safety considerations.”

According to Blinken, the workers in Ukraine’s western city of Lviv will spend a night in Poland but made it clear that they will keep supporting the Ukrainian government, claiming that the United States’ commitment to Ukraine was “steadfast.”

“Our diplomats will return to Ukraine on a regular basis to conduct their diplomatic job and provide urgent consular services. They will keep supporting the Ukrainian government and its people while coordinating international efforts,” Blinken added.

The decision came after Russia reportedly sent its soldiers into Ukraine’s breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk for “peacekeeping” activities.

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that he will acknowledge the “self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s State and the Luhansk People’s Republic.”

He also reportedly signed a directive allowing Russian Military soldiers to enter the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, arguing that the decision is to “keep the peace”.

Just recently, the US and Ukrainian officials warned that Moscow may invent “pretexts” that will justify an attack on Ukraine.
