Most Democrats revealed they no longer want US President Joe Biden to run for the upcoming elections this year.
According to a New York Times/Siena College poll released on Monday, over 77% of Americans claimed that the United States is moving in the wrong direction while nearly 64% or Democratic voters claimed that they want the party to pick a different candidate for the 2024 presidential race.
Meanwhile, only 13% say that the country is on the right track which was reported to be the fewest since the depths of the Great Recession over a decade ago.
As the Americans continue to suffer from the increasing gas and food prices amid the high inflation rates across the United States, President Biden’s approval rating has dropped to 33%, with only 70% among Democrats.
The data also revealed that Democratic voters are growing less and less interested about Biden’s leadership while he repeatedly says that he intends to run for re-election despite being the country’s oldest-ever president at 79.
Democratic voters also argued that they would prefer a different candidate besides Biden. 33% of the voters cited his age, 32% point to his leadership performance, while the other 12% claimed that they just prefer someone new. Meanwhile, 10% claimed that President Biden isn’t progressive enough while the remaining 4% doubt his ability to win re-election.
On Monday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre blasted the findings during the press conference and argued that “from that very same poll, there were 92% of Democrats who support this president as well.”
“You know, there’s going to be many polls. They are going to go up and they are going to go down. This is not the thing that we are solely focused on,” she added.
Amid Biden’s decreasing approval rating, 38-year-old preschool teacher Nicole Farrier claimed in an interview that she voted for Biden, believing that he would be able to bridge the political divisions in the country.
“I’m just going to come out and say it: I want younger blood. I am so tired of all the old people running our country. I don’t want someone knocking on death’s door.” Farrier said.
