“As your First Lady and as a teacher, I’ve seen again and again that learning doesn’t only happen in a classroom. There are so many fun opportunities to learn around us every day. And that’s especially true here at the White House,” the First Lady opened in her speech.

“For generations, Presidents and First Ladies and kids, just like you, celebrated the Easter Egg Roll together, racing and making crafts, reading books, and, of course, meeting the Easter Bunny,” she added.

The president also gave his remarks following the first lady, saying that they are excited to host this year’s East Egg roll after failing to do so last year because of the pandemic.

“Jill and I are excited to have you at the White House. We weren’t able to host this Easter Egg Roll last year because of the pandemic,” Biden said. “But this year, this year, we’re finally getting together again, and it’s so special. It means so much to see and hear the children and all the families show up to be here today.”

Biden later made his way over to the reporters to entertain questions but as reporter Nazira Karimi asked about Afghanistan, the White House Easter Bunny quickly interrupted.

“Pakistan should not and Afghanistan should be — people should be free,” Biden began his answer before the bunny rushed to his location and directed the president to move along.

The weird interaction was captured in an 11-second video clip by event attendee Thomas C. Dillon.

“Joe Biden quickly interrupted by the Easter Bunny after he starts to comment on #Afghanistan and #Pakistan at the White House,” tweeted Dillion, who is also a public relations consultant and former adviser to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

White House press official Meghan Hays appeared to be the Easter Bunny when she tweeted a photo of herself in the bunny suit with Biden and the first lady. It is unclear whether the photo was posted before or after the incident.
