House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s daughter, Alexandra Pelosi, said the GOP’s alleged demonization of her mother led to the “inevitable” attack on her father, Paul Pelosi, in late October.

Speaking to CNN in an interview aired on Tuesday, Pelosi pointed to the “hundreds of millions of dollars in advertising” spent by Republicans over the years to vilify the powerful Democratic lawmaker, who she said to put “a target” on the back of the Pelosi family.

The daughter also said that conservatives allegedly making fun of her father after the attack was “unforgivable” and part of the reason his “faith in humanity” was “destroyed.”

“CNN This Morning” host Don Lemon aired a portion of his pre-recorded interview with Pelosi on Tuesday, where they discussed their new HBO documentary focusing on her mother’s political career, titled “Pelosi In The House.”

Though the biggest parts of their discussions revolved around the elephant in the room, the attack on her father, Paul Pelosi, in their San Francisco home that left him with serious injuries.

Fox News Digital reported in October that “House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul was attacked with a hammer early Friday morning inside their San Francisco home by an assailant identified by police as David DePape.”

According to a law enforcement source, DePape was looking for the Speaker of the House and allegedly yelled, “Where’s Nancy, where’s Nancy?” during the accident. Pelosi suffered blunt force injuries to the head and body, including a fractured skull.

During their interview, Pelosi told Lemon that her family is traumatized by the incident, saying, “We still live in it every day.” He said she “hasn’t slept all night” since the attack.

She added: “You have to understand the fact that there is an 82-year-old man sleeping in his own bed and being attacked in his own home. And I don’t care how they vote. I don’t care what your political affiliations are. It’s not correct in anyone, so making peace with that in your head, it’s hard to make peace.”

Pelosi later said the attack was “inevitable” after years of Republican political attacks on his mother. He said, “It was so promising. It was so inevitable. When you think about the hundreds of millions of dollars in advertising Republicans, have spent demonizing my mother. I used to joke with my father: “She turned our last name into a dirty word.” It was twenty years ago when we made those jokes.”

Pelosi added, “Our whole family has had a target on their backs for a while,” mentioning how the incident was “traumatic” for her mother.

The conversation then turned to the conservative reaction to the attack. Pelosi mentioned how her “faith in humanity has been destroyed by all of this.”

She continued, “What I do know is the way Republicans have responded to this attack has been so inexcusable. The jokes. Did you see the jokes? Virginia governor, aspiring governor of Arizona, Congressman joked about an 82-year-old man who was attacked in the same house as him.”

“I don’t understand how that’s forgivable,” Pelosi said, adding, “I don’t know how to talk about it without getting so dark.” Sympathizing with her, Lemon said, “No, no, no, we want to be real.”
