A new poll revealed that a majority of Americans said President Joe Biden is mentally unfit to serve as commander-in-chief.
According to the poll conducted by the Washington Post and ABC News, 37 percent of the 1,011 random correspondents believe Biden is a weak leader, and that a majority favor Republicans being in charge of Congress.
When asked about the president’s “mental sharpness,” 40 percent said he is mentally sharp enough to serve as president while 54 percent think he is not.
The poll also showed that Biden has lost independents, as 59% of them viewed the president’s mental fitness negatively, a rise of 13 percent since May 2020.
The result comes after a recent survey from RealClearPolitics revealed that Biden’s approval rating has dropped below 40 percent, making it the first time that had happened since he took office.
According to the survey, 39.8 percent of Americans approved Biden’s performance as president while 54.4 percent showed disapproval.
In contrast, former President Donald Trump, who finished his four-year term in office with an average approval rating of 41.1 percent, has done better than Biden.
Biden managed to keep his approval rating above 50 percent during his first months in office, but his popularity began to plunge last August after the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal.
Americans’ frustration with the rising inflation and the health restrictions—vaccine and mask mandates—caused by the COVID-19 pandemic could be attributed to the president’s awful rating.
The RealClearPolitics survey also found that only 27.6 percent of Americans were satisfied with the direction the country is heading while a whopping 65.1 percent think otherwise.
In addition to the soaring gas prices and surge in crime all over the nation, Biden is also struggling with the loss of his $2 trillion social spending plan, a key component for the Democratic Party
This indicates that an increasing number of Americans are losing trust in the president, including fellow party members who have left Biden behind as they lift his administration’s abrasive health restrictions.
Democrats are fearing that the dissatisfaction with the Biden administration could cost them their majority in Congress during the November 8 midterm elections.
