ISIS Operative ARRESTED On American Soil!

Federal officials have accused a former Metro Detroit man of attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, a terrorist organization, and of being a criminal in possession of a destructive device.

According to the indictment, Aws Mohammed Naser, 34, formerly of Westland, attempted to provide material support to ISIS in the form of personnel (including himself) and services, knowing that ISIS was a designated terrorist organization and that ISIS is engaged in terrorism. . . Additionally, Naser was accused of being a felon in possession of a destructive device in October 2017.

Naser will be arraigned on the charge in federal court in Detroit. If convicted, Naser faces a maximum statutory sentence of up to 20 years in prison on the charge of attempted material support and up to 15 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a destructive device.

Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen of the Justice Department’s Division of Homeland Security, United States Attorney Dawn N. Ison for the Eastern District of Michigan, and Special Agent in Charge James A. Tarasca of the FBI Detroit Field Office made the announcement.

The indictment, which opened Tuesday in the Eastern District of Michigan, accuses Aws Mohammed Naser, 34, a former Westland member, of offering his services to ISIS, knowing it “was a designated terrorist organization.”

The case was investigated by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.

The Justice Department offered few details about Naser or the case in its press release. Assistant US Attorney Saima Mohsin is pursuing the case, assisted by Dmitriy Slavin of the Homeland Security Division’s Counterterrorism Branch. The Free Press left a message with the Justice Department asking for more information.

If convicted, Naser faces a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison for attempted support of a terrorism charge and 15 years for a weapons charge.

Naser, whose Department of Correctional file shows that he has many aliases, was also convicted of armed robbery in 2013 in Oakland County and sentenced the following year to between 3 and 20 years and assigned to the Carson Correctional Facility City.
