All types of transportation are included in California’s green agenda?!

California has been working on a climate plan that includes transportation, even though they have gotten a lot of criticism about how this might hurt the economy. The California Air Resources Board has finalized new rules that will switch the state from transportation choices that use oil to ones that don’t.

The California Air Resources Board has told passenger cars, big trucks, freight trains, and port ships that they need to change. “We can solve this climate crisis if we focus on the big, bold steps necessary to cut pollution,” he said.

CARB has rules that say by 2035, all new cars will have to be electric and stop running on gas. That being said, twenty more states have also made this rule their own.

Because transportation puts out so many pollution, environmentalists see it as the first big area that needs to be fixed to help fight climate change. With the rules set by Paris, there has been a huge push to stop global warming. The transportation sector in California is responsible for almost 40% of all emissions, which is a lot more than the power and industry sectors.

A couple of years ago, Newsom made his California Climate Commitment public. This started the state’s journey to a cleaner atmosphere. According to Newsom, this plan would get rid of fossil fuels and the need for them, cut greenhouse gas pollution by 85%, promote green energy, and lower the demand for oil.

A lot of different people have said bad things about the rules because they say the plan can’t work. The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, which speaks for a group of automakers who back the switch to electric vehicles, says they don’t think the plan is reasonable.

Some people have even made fun of how difficult it seems like California is making it for people to own their own cars and use public transportation because the state wants everyone to switch.
