Someone in New Orleans who works as a magician has admitted to making a robocall pretending to be Joe Biden

As a psychic, Paul David Carpenter holds a number of world records. Carpenter said that he was the one who made the message that heard like it was from Joe Biden. He said that the CEO of the President’s opponent, Dean Phillips, paid him to work for them. That CEO is now known as Steve Kramer. To back up what he said, he showed call logs, texts, and proof of payments. The message was meant to make people less likely to vote for Joe Biden in the New Hampshire primary.

Carpenter, the magician, said, “I made the sound that was used in the robocall, but I didn’t give it out.” People offered me money to do something, and I took them up on their offer. There was no bad intention. It wasn’t clear to me how it would be given out.

Government agencies are now looking into the recording, and it led to the US government banning robocalls with sounds made by AI. Carpenter even said that it was “so scary” how easy it was for him to make the fake tape. He said it took less than 20 minutes and cost only $1, even though he was paid $150 for the recording.

Carpenter showed all the proof he needed and even shared the original audio file that was made by ElevenLabs software. ElevenLabs is an AI company that says it can use existing speech clips to make AI voices.

The campaign for Dean Phillips said they were “disgusted” that Mr. Kramer was behind the call. “If it is true that Mr Kramer had any part in making deep fake robocalls, he did so of his own free will and had nothing to do with our campaign,” said Katie Dolan, Phillips’s press assistant.
